Weekly Report August 16, 2025

“It’s all about the presentation”…………….

And on that clowning around note, thanks so much to Advocates Recovery Services for the beautifully presented burritos and full breakfast.  Our Neighbors enjoyed hash browns, scrambled eggs with potatoes and ham and gravy plus fruit juice and milk.

We appreciate the freshly cooked nutrition that our breakfast crews provide.  A gift from them to our “every week” volunteers is their energy.  They enjoy servicing, and we every “week folks” are nourished by banter.  The Trinity kitchen is the place to be on Saturday mornings.

Our pantry served 78 Neighbors and 3 families this morning.  Our Neighbors now know to ask for pet food.  We can say that we served 2 cats and 6 dogs.

It was dental van day!  One dentist, with support staff served 9 patients.  That’s a long, busy day.  Thank you, Susan for a lot of organizing plus a long morning of hosting.

It was a healthcare kind of day.  Our Neighbors could consult with Advocates Recovery’s medical team while they waited for their dental care.

Speaking of dental care / Please open the attachment.  Our partners at St Philopeter & St Demiana Church are hosting Community Action Day on Saturday, August 30.  They will be giving free backpacks and school supplies to our local students AND the dental van will be there.  We hope you will post the flyer in your congregation.  Back to school is a financial burden for many families.

Neighbor updates:

  • Robin’s medical tests for cancer were all negative.
  • Sherie is feeling much better.  It took a lot of encouraging by our medical teams for her to seek additional medical care.  Her kind treatment allowed her to keep her appointments and to follow instructions.
  • Spencer will have keys to his own apartment in about 2 weeks.  He has survived on the streets for 9 years.
  • Jerry is proud that he has stayed out of jail for 7 months.  He has trusted Jeannine to open a bank account for direct deposit of SSI and he now has his state ID.  This is a huge growth in trust.
  • Joey has also taken the steps to get his ID and successfully apply for benefits.
  • John had his very painful tooth pulled this morning.  He was a relieved young man.

Now!  Let’s all pray for good news for our other 70 plus Neighbors.

Thank you all for your willing multi-tasking on another busy Saturday.

We wish you peace,

Joan
