It’s probable that every NiN volunteer is napping this afternoon. All Neighbors had burritos and coffee/hot chocolate. All Neighbors received generous pantry bags. No Neighbors argued and no dogs barked. Almost every Neighbor needed to tell their story and most stories were grim. It was a morning for deep listening.
Our team from St. Philopater & St Demiana Coptic Orthodox Church prepared 122 burritos this morning and every single one was eaten. On behalf of our Neighbors, sincere thanks. St Philopater & St Demiana volunteers like to work!! After cooking and deep cleaning the kitchen, they moved to clothing. They transferred cool weather clothing from Trinity House to our basement storage. We’re truly grateful.
Speaking of clothing, we never have enough warm sweatshirts, jackets and blue jeans. All donations gratefully received on Saturday mornings.
That blue sign that you can’t quite read? It’s a request to “Please Respect Our Bathrooms”. Today it was AJ’s turn to be bold and enforce the “Respect” concept. It’s tough duty in just a few cases each Saturday. Special gratitude for AJ and other volunteers who encourage our Neighbors to be good neighbors.
The pantry served 84 Neighbors and 3 families this morning. Advocates Recovery Services brought in an array of sandwiches that included toasted cheese and tuna salad. We can prepare them at home as frequently as we want comfort food. Our Neighbors considered them a rare treat. Edmonds Food Bank always sends us generous shelf stable items plus fresh fruits and salads. This morning’s gifts included an especially large variety of fruits. Delicious and beautiful!
The medical team from Advocates Recovery were steady busy this morning. Two medical professionals were busy the entire morning.
To this morning’s volunteers, you gave sincere welcome to people who seriously needed it. Our Neighbors’ Days are much improved thanks to your sincere friendship.
