“Life is good unless we make it hard” This is a reflection from a man who has been a Neighbor since our first Saturday mornings with early morning coffee and sweet rolls. After all of these years, he found the trust to accept resources (and responsibility). Praise God for each volunteer who offers food, donated clothing, and prayer/listening with no judgment.
Just look at all of the bags of clothing!! Thank you to the Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation. The congregation held a clothing drive for our Neighbors. These bags were stuffed full of warm hats and scarves, socks, blue jeans, and dozens of warm coats. Our volunteers set up tables in the narthex to display the gifts. Rick and Allen had a very busy morning serving as fashion consultants. They helped several dozen people select comfortable warmth.
Hot breakfast burritos were a gift from the team at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Thanks so much for your early morning work and your many, many years of care for our Neighbors.
We served breakfast burritos and food bags to just over 40 Neighbors plus one family this morning. The volunteer team all agreed that probably half of our guests were new to us.
Mercy Watch was with us today to care for our Neighbors and to provide flu vaccine for both Neighbors and volunteers. They provide a continuity of care for our Neighbors that makes a huge difference in the Snohomish County homeless community. We are thankful that they can be with us every second Saturday of each month.
Prayer requests:
Kevin asks for prayers for a new home (he says he is very near), and for protection for his children and grandchildren. He also asks us to pray for safety for all on the streets.
Pray for Kelly who will have a tumor removed this week. After intense prayer and listening from NiN volunteers and partner organizations, he chose to accept long-term convalescence over death.
Pray for Gary who will get a new valve in his heart on Wednesday.
Also, pray for the volunteers who man the cold weather shelter. www.weallbelong.org. They will provide warm dinners and shelter for our Neighbors during the next several days.
Shalom
Joan
