Weekly Report May 27, 2023

“Love like Jesus loves”.  That was the thought that one of our Neighbors wrote on our whiteboard this morning.

Many, many thanks to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for cooking breakfast this morning.  They brought a large crew to prepare burritos as well as sausage patties, biscuits, and gravy, milk, and fruit juice.  They served breakfast to 57 Neighbors. It was a long morning of service as they helped fill grocery bags, serve breakfast, and (ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT) circulate among our Neighbors.  This is a photo of just a few of their team.

Our pantry team provided groceries, sandwiches, and salads to 42 Neighbors this morning.  We had several Neighbors with us that we hadn’t seen for many months.  It’s always a bittersweet reunion.  We wish they didn’t need us.

Remember Michelle?  She was so hopelessly addicted.  How many times did we have to call the Lynnwood Police to drag her out of the rest room and how frequently did Frank have to wait in frustration because she wouldn’t leave the Showers To The People trailer?  She was back today with a big smile and in excellent health None of us recognized her – she looked that good.  Wow was she proud!  😊😊

Another happy return was Brooke with her two daughters.  She originally came to us after escaping a domestic violence situation.  The Snohomish County Domestic Violence Services found housing for her.  Neighbors in Need volunteers furnished her apartment.  She was able to come in today after several months of “laying low”.  All three are well cared by Domestic Violence Services and she knows we are here for her.

Our Resource Table was busy today.  Tom, Sue, and Mark helped Neighbors with replacing their lost IDs.  (This is a multi-step and tedious process.)  They helped another Neighbor with transportation.  And they helped yet another Neighbor with the first necessary steps to replace his green card.  Each of these Neighbors will soon be properly documented to secure housing, health benefits, and employment.

DENTAL VAN:   The free dental van will be with us next Saturday, June 3.  If you care for someone or have anyone in your organization who needs free dental care, please have them call me.  206-450-4900.  I have attached information flyers.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember all veterans, especially those who gave their lives while serving to secure our safety.  Thank you to each of you and to those who love you.

Love like Jesus does.

Joan
