It’s corny to say, but it was a truly “Neighborly” morning. We had a large and friendly crowd which included several first-time guests. Even the dogs in attendance were friendly to each other.
Thank you to the team from Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation for preparing lots a burritos this morning. There was ample breakfast for our large crowd.
The pantry was busy as well. They provided bags of groceries to 85 Neighbors and family boxes for 4 families. Thank you to Edmonds Food Bank and their donors for healthy nutrition.
Thank you to Bombas Socks for six cases of warm socks!! We all know that Bombas Corporation donates one pair of socks for every pair that is purchased. The company distributes their gifts through a grant program. Thank you to Tony and the Advocates Recovery Services Team for writing the successful grant application and for sharing Bomba’s generosity.
Gail and Bailee, our Mercy Watch team served 18 patients, including Neighbors and a couple of NiN volunteers. They examined and cared for several wounds, and supplied expert health maintenance advice.
A few Neighbor updates:
- Gary is celebrating good health. He has been clean for a full year. He is in a comfortable apartment with onsite health practices supervision and is steadily employed.
- Aaron just bought a pickup!
He practiced a lot of self-discipline to save enough money for a reliable vehicle. He loves his sparkling clean “ride”.
- Sue and “Polar Bear” have negotiated outdoor but covered shelter in Bothel. Safe rest will give her energy and patience to pursue permanent resources.
- Melodie will be out of physical rehap and home in her own apartment this week. Thanks to VA benefits she will have regular in home care until she is safely on her own.
- Spencer tackled some money crises. He found a resource to teach him personal financing skills. He had been close to eviction, but is now current in all of his financial obligations.Our Neighbors’ successes are less frequent than we would like, but each achievement reminds us that our Saturday mornings are well spent.
