Saturday Morning Weekly Report

This about says it all, doesn’t it?   Out of the rain…… Generous bowl of Bella’s kibble…… Lots of pats on the head………..  Neighbors in Need is the place to be!! No pictures of the team from Holy Rosary!  They move too fast.  They prepared, as they always do, a full breakfast of biscuits and gravy,

It was a smaller crowd today.  Early in the month, for sure, but wouldn’t a hot beverage on a cold morning be inviting?   It was a small morning, yet a companionable morning.  A warm way to start the day. Many thanks to the team from Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation for hot burritos. The crowd

Remember when you were in junior high and had a substitute teacher.   There were typically a couple of students who believed they could fool the sub with outlandish descriptions of “how we always do it”.  The two were both at Neighbors in Need this morning.  “But I always take more than two salads!  I give

There are several rewarding reasons to serve at Neighbors in Need on early Saturday mornings.  A frequent perk is the morning sky.  See our view of the full moon this morning.  Even our Neighbors who had camped outside were talking of the beauty. Gloria Dei Lutheran Church fed “the masses” this morning!  They served 190

It’s probable that every NiN volunteer is napping this afternoon.  All Neighbors had  burritos and coffee/hot chocolate.  All Neighbors received generous pantry bags.  No Neighbors argued and no dogs barked.  Almost every Neighbor needed to tell their story and most stories were grim.  It was a morning for deep listening. It was an early morning river of southbound bubbles. Our Neighbors were less enthusiastic about the rain than our own hydrangeas probably were, but they didn’t complain.  Many damp garments were exchanged for dry jeans and hoodies and, especially wet shoes.  Keep those Saturday morning donations coming!! While you are downsizing, do you have extra

It was a quiet morning.  Apparently, our Neighbors wanted to enjoy coffee, a burrito and a comfortable moment to chat.  We were mostly closed half an hour early. Thank you, St Philomena and St Demiana Coptic Congregation!!  They cooked and served 120 burritos.  They brought a huge box of socks and men’s jeans.  They helped

It was all about Team Trinity this morning.  They were our cooks, burrito assemblers and servers. Those who weren’t cooking did double duty in the pantry and in clothing.    And what about these three?  They washed all the dishes, pots and pans and were still smiling at the end of the day.  It was

Why would Shawna and Susan be so excited about a successful pot of coffee?  (You just had to be there )  Thank you both for a lot of cleanup and for outsmarting that evil appliance. The multi-purpose room filled up early this morning!  Every table was full by 8 AM (Again, thank you Suusan and

It was kind of a tough day today.  We had several first-time guests who must rarely experience a kind welcome.  They were cautious and defensive.  Our regular Neighbors gave them space.  Our volunteers were patient, even when that patience was tested.  Abundant kindness warms hearts. Thank you to our team from St Philopater & St.
